IARA DE CARVALHO PERILLO (2000)

Raised by a Brazilian percussionist and a French horn player, Iara grew up in a musical environment.

At the age of 7 she started to play the flute with Eva Schotanus and at her 14th she started at the Sweelinck Academy (Young Talent Academy of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam) with Marieke Schneemann.

 

Iara is studied her Master Degree in Live Electronics at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Jos Zwaanenburg, Jorrit Tamminga and Marcel Wierickx, where she obtained as well her Classical Flute Bachelor in 2022 under the tutelage of Marieke Schneemann and studied Advanced Rhythm in 2023. Very regular she has had lessons with Kersten McCall for flute, Vincent Cortvrint for flute/piccolo and Marten Root for traverso flute.

Iara has received lessons and masterclasses from Harrie Starreveld, Renate Greiss and Emily Beynon. She also has had lessons in different music genres and techniques; musicians as Niti Ranjan Biswas (Indian music), Jasper van Damme (jazz improvisation), Tim Kliphuis (improvisation), Nelson Latif (Brazilian music), Maya Verlaak, Oene van Geel (composition), Jos Zwaanenburg en Tatiana Rosa (Live Electronics) inspired her to expand her horizons.

Besides flute, she has had lessons with Taco Kooistra for conducting, at the Nederlandse Junior Dirigeer Academie (NJDA) from 2016-2018.

Currently Iara is playing often with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (NBE), is the main flutist in The Legendary Orchestra and collaborated often in music (theater) performances with the Dutch National Opera during Opera Forward Festival. She was part of the JongNBE (2023-2025), cross-over ensemble Nachtlicht and interdisciplinairy ensemble "WORDS", who released their first album in February '24 with AUT Records and NÜGO Records. She is active as well as a soloist as in various chamber music ensembles, including the TRILLIUM trio (flute/viola/harp), Paleia flute trio (flute/violin/viola), Iara Perillo & Martín Vera Guerra Duo (flute/oboe) and Dufonte (flute/harp). With this last ensemble she won a second prize in 2020 at the Rosa Spier competition in the category Ensemble and performed and recorded at the Forbidden Music Regained festival by Donemus in 2023, whicih resulted in a performances on live radio on NPO4 Podium as well as Concertzender.

Next to these ensembles, she is co-leader of the duo LASALTAS (alto flute, viola and live electronics), with viola player Bea Alvarez, with whom she premiered their work 'The Reveries' in 2025 at Bios.Romantso (Athens) during a residency and their newest work 'low litt/between surfaces' during an Evening of Today in het Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. They performed as well at places like ADE and the Ambient Music Conference (Copenhagen).

From 2021-2024 she was also part of the Stichting Red Light Arts & Culture team, as co-artistic leader and producer. 

In the past she has played with many (project) orchestras and ensembles, such as the JeugdOrkest Nederland (JON), Ricciotti Ensemble, JongJongNBE, JongNBEWest, Jonge Blazers Nederland, Klassiek Collectief, Filharmonia, the NoordHollands Jeugdorkest (NHJO), the Kennemer Jeugdorkest, Jong Excelsior, Sweelinck studentenorkest, CREA studentenorkest, Jong Excelsior and Jeugd Symfonie Orkest Rijnstreek. With these orchestras she has given many performances throughout the Netherlands and abroad on tours to Germany, Czech Republic, France, Belgium,  Luxembourg, Italy and Brazil, playing in the renowned halls of nowadays. 

At the age of 11 till 13 she played as a guest with Nelson Latif's Brazilian music ensemble in places as Bimhuis and De IJzeren Staaf in Amsterdam.

 

Iara performed several times solo with orchestra, in 2016 with Jong Excelsior, in 2019 with Zaans Symfonie Orkest (Mozart Flute concerto in D),  in 2022 with the Guri Santa Marcelina orchestra (Brazil) and in 2023 performing Busoni's Divertimento with the Noord-Hollands Jeugdorkest in Germany and the Netherlands, among other halls the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.

She also performed solo with pianist Vital Stahievitch in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in 2018.
